What can you do at home to stay well?

A lot of us are likely working from home due to the enhanced community quarantine imposed by the Philippine government to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During a pandemic like COVID-19, our wellness is very important. Maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, and sleeping well should still be observed. These are crucial in preserving your physical and mental health.

Eating a well-balanced diet

Our health and nutrition should be our priority. This lockdown presents a great time for maintaining and enhancing your health as you practice social distance. Healthy eating is especially necessary to keep the immune system in good condition. We should at least try to avoid eating processed food and prepare a freshly cooked meal.

Exercising

Exercise is important for your overall healthy well-being, but it is vital to protect yourself from diseases. Every hour, make it a habit to stand-up and go around the house. This will also help you refocus on your work. The basics such as planks, pushups, squats, leg lifts, or bicycles and burpees for an easy workout that you may do before or after working, that will build strength and get your heart rate up.

Sleeping at the right time

Getting enough sleep will help you boost your immune system. Sleep is important as sleep-deprived people can have suppressed immunity, meaning that they’re more at risk of catching viruses.

A daily dose of vitamin

Being nutrient-deficient can lower your immune function. Various micronutrients are essential for immunocompetence, particularly vitamins A, C, D, E, B2, B6, and B12, folic acid, iron, selenium, and zinc.

Staying hydrated

Drinking enough water is extremely important to keep your body healthy, and reduce the risk of infections. To be reminded to drink water, try placing your water bottle beside your working station.

Communicate with others

Reaching out to people and checking up on them is a good practice. Since we are unable to meet personally, talking virtually will help all parties maintain a healthy mental health. This is one way of telling each other that we are all in this together.

All these tips should be taken personally if we want the pandemic to stop. The most effective way to avoid the virus still remains; washing hands, not touching the eyes, nose or mouth, and practicing social distancing when you are out of the house to buy essential needs.
