The COVID-19 virus can be transmitted through coughing and sneezing by way of direct contact with an infected person’s droplets, and touching virus-contaminated surfaces. The virus can survive on surfaces for hours or days.

Good thing for us, the virus can be killed by disinfectants.Regularly washing and disinfecting commonly touched surfaces in your home is an effective measure to reduce the risk of infection.

What are commonly touched surfaces?

Each home is different, but commonly touched surfaces include:

• Door handles

• Tables & Chairs

• Handrails

• Countertops

• Toilets

• Light switches

• Gadgets

• Computers

• Toys

How can you disinfect your home?

If a surface in the house is dirty, first thing you need to do is to clean it with soap or detergent and water. Afterwards, use a disinfectant product containing alcohol (should be 70% solution) or bleach. Here are more tips for disinfecting surfaces in your home:

1. Make sure there’s good ventilation in the area where you are cleaning

2. Wear disposable gloves

3. Use a diluted household bleach solution, or an alcohol-based solution with at least 70% alcohol.

4. Follow instructions on the cleaning product’s label

5. Wash your hands when you are done.

Disinfecting your home should not only be done during a Pandemic but should be done regularly to protect you, the community and the family as well.
