How to properly wear your face mask

The “new normal” made us wear a mask every time we go outside. To protect us on getting the coronavirus, we make sure we equip ourselves with protective gears such as face mask, face shield, gloves, hand sanitizers and alcohol.

As more people are using public transport to go back to work, World Health Organization (WHO) advices to always wear a face mask, whether it is surgical or non-surgical, when going outside for work or necessities.

Facemasks can help limit the spread of germs. When someone talks, coughs, or sneezes they may release tiny drops into the air that can infect others.

HOW TO WEAR AND REMOVE A NON-MEDICAL FABRIC MASK PROPERLY

1. Clean your hands with soap and water or hand sanitizer before touching the mask.

2. Adjust the mask to your face without leaving any gaps on the sides.

3. Make sure that you cover your mouth, nose, and chin.

4. Avoid touching the mask.

5. Clean your hands before removing the mask.

6. Remove the mask by the straps behind the ears or head.

7. Pull the mask away from your face.

8.Store the mask in clean, resealable bag if it is not wet or dirty and you plan to re – use it.

9.Remove the mask by the straps when taking it out of the bag.

10.Wash the mask in soap or detergent.

11.Clean your hands after removing the mask.

HOW TO WEAR AND REMOVE A MEDICAL MASK PROPERLY

1.Wash your hands before touching the mask.

2.Inspect the mask for any damages.

3.Determine which side of the mask is the top. The side of the mask that has a stiff bendable edge is the top and is meant to mold to the shape of your nose.

4.Ensure the colored – side faces outwards.

5.Make sure you cover your mouth, nose, and chin.

6.Adjust the mask to your face without leaving any gaps on the sides.

7.Avoid touching the mask.

8.Remove the mask from behind the ears or head.

9.Keep the mask away from you and surfaces while removing it.

10.Discard the mask immediately after use preferably into a closed bin.

11.Wash your hands after discarding the mask.

Disposable face masks should be used once and then thrown in the trash. You should also remove and replace masks when they become moist.

Always follow product instructions on use and storage of the mask, and procedures for how to put on and remove a mask.

A fabric mask or surgical mask can protect you and other people around you.

To protect yourself and prevent the spread of COVID – 19, remember to maintain social distancing, clean your hands frequently and thoroughly, and avoid touching your face and mask.
