Tips for regular bowel movement

Digestion may be a complete mystery for most of us. Our bodies appear to be doing just what they do, sometimes without any explanation.

Regular bowel movement is important for good health. An individual needs to poop to survive because otherwise the body has no way to excrete those wastes. If a person has not pooped for several days, the stool in the intestines will back up.

Prolonged constipation may start putting your health at risk. That is why it is important to have a healthy and regular bowel movement. To ensure regular visits to the bathroom, here are a few tips:

1. Drink water

Every cell in our body requires water. Our bodies get the water we need from the liquids we drink, and the food we consume. The digestive system needs plenty of water to keep food waste moving through it. When you are well hydrated, less water will be drawn out of your colon, thereby keeping your stool soft and easy to pass. Otherwise, the stool can become hard and difficult to pass.

2. Add fiber in your diet

Fiber has a lot to do with natural bowel movements. Fiber is the portion that we cannot absorb from the plant foods. Thus, it forms the foundation for the stools we transfer during bowel movements.

3. Eat fruits, nuts, grains and vegetables

Furthermore, consuming foods with plenty of fiber is essential. This adds bulk to your stool, which stimulates the bowels and help propel the stools to move forward. Foods containing fiber include: fruits, such as strawberries, and apples; nuts and seeds, such as pistachios, almonds, or sunflower seeds; and green leafy vegetables.

4. Maintain a healthy eating habit

Develop a regular eating habit and chew your food properly before swallowing. It’s important to eat plenty of leafy vegetables and salads.

Bowel movements require food, fluids to create a more comfortable experience. If you’re following those tips and your symptoms don’t get better, talk to a doctor.

You may talk to specialist doctors from Medgate without having to worry to get exposed with different diseases such as COVID-19.
