Be proud of your mouth

The theme for Oral Health Month for the next three years sends out a simple but powerful message: Be Proud of Your Mouth. In other words, value and take care of it.

The importance of good oral health to our overall health cannot be overstated. The purpose of appropriate oral hygiene is to prevent gum disease and tooth decay by removing or preventing plaque and tartar growth and buildup. Bacterial colonies thrive in our mouths, and these germs can lead to tooth decay.

Keeping your teeth clean can help prevent cavities and gum disease while also keeping the surfaces of your teeth clean. For proper oral hygiene, here are some brushing essentials:

1. Brush your teeth regularly

Brushing your teeth 3x a day is a healthy habit to adopt in order to avoid plaque buildup on the teeth. Tartar and tooth decay can be avoided by brushing your teeth on a regular basis. If you’re going to buy toothpaste, ensure it has fluoride in it. It’s also important to remember to replace your toothbrush every three months to avoid germ buildup.

2. Use Mouthwash

Undoubtedly, brushing our teeth on a regular basis is important for our overall health, but it isn’t always enough. Some regions of our mouth are difficult to reach with a toothbrush. It’s possible that these regions are infested with bacteria that can create illness in our mouths. It’s also a good idea to floss your teeth. It helps in removing food debris and bacteria from places that the toothbrush cannot reach.

3. Avoid eating hard foods, as much as you can.

Our teeth are made up of hard material that allows us to bite down on hard objects. However, we have a habit of biting things that harm our teeth. Avoid eating hard food and be cautious while biting bones. Accidents like this can cause tooth injury, which, if left untreated, can escalate to decay.

4. Consult your dentist regularly

Make sure you set an appointment with your dentist regularly. Remember, early detection and treatment of problems with your gums, teeth and mouth can help ensure a lifetime of good oral health and a smiling face throughout the day.

After all, having good gums and teeth will make us end up with a smile.
